My first book debuts on November, 28th. While it is the first book I ever sold, it isn’t the first book I wrote. The first book I ever wrote is a mystery entitled, TRAVELLIN’ SHOES.
Travellin’ shoes is the first in a series featuring RJ Franklin, a police officer, and his witty godmother, Mama B. All of the titles in the series come from Negro Spirituals. In the tradition of cozy mysteries, the series features recipes. In this case, the recipes are for what I grew up calling, soul food.
This book was my thesis project at Seton Hill University where I got my Master of Fine Arts in Writing Popular Fiction. I’ve always heard you should write what you know. I don’t know a lot about murder (thankfully), but I do know what it’s like to grow up in a midsized town in Indiana. I know what it’s like to grow up “in the church,” singing in the choir, eating soul food, and reading cozy mysteries. I wanted to write about that community with the colorful people and rich culture of song and delicious foods.
Thanks to the wonderful people at Camel Press, Travellin’ Shoes will be released on July 1, 2018. I’m super excited to reveal the cover for this first book.More information will be posted as soon as its available, so stay tuned.
